As 22-year-old David writes in his essay: "I've had people tell me that I'm too intimidating, that I'm 'too much' for them. It's hard to hear things like that, especially when you're just trying to be yourself."

Masculinity

The book also explores the complex and often contradictory expectations that society has for Black men. They are expected to be strong and athletic, but also sensitive and nurturing. They are supposed to be providers, but also protectors. This can lead to a great deal of confusion and frustration.

As 17-year-old Marcus writes: "I feel like I'm constantly being pulled in different directions. I'm supposed to be a tough guy, but I also want to be able to show my emotions. I'm supposed to be a provider, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to find a job that pays enough to support a family."

"Is That All You People Think About?" is a powerful and moving book that provides a unique perspective on the experiences of young Black men. The contributors to this volume offer a nuanced and complex exploration of the challenges and triumphs faced by this often-marginalized group.
